Dog Rescue and Adoption in the
Chico, Sacramento, Redding Area
Are you looking to adopt a small dog such as a
poodle, shih tzu, terrier, chihuahua or pug?

Small Dog Rescue is located in Chico, CA
We are happy to announce that we are now serving Northern California from our new
location in Chico, CA, Butte County (70 miles north of Sacramento on Hwy 99) for those
wishing to adopt small dogs.
We are still getting dogs from shelters throughout the
Central Valley, and from Mexico, through our affiliation with Compassion Without Borders,
and their quarantine center at Animal Place, in Vacaville.
We are looking for foster homes, event volunteers, dog walkers, and volunteer office
staff in the Chico area. Please let us know if you can possibly help us save more lives. For
each additional volunteer, an adoptable small dog is placed in the transport vehicle from a
shelter, where for no other reason than being in the wrong place at the wrong time, it was
going to be killed.

Small
Dog Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)-3 non-profit organization based in Chico, CA and serving Butte
County, Chico, Redding and Sacramento. The group is staffed by a small group of dedicated, unpaid
volunteers who rescue small dogs under 20 pounds. We receive no commercial or government
funding.
Most of our dogs come from animal shelters all over central California, where thousands of
dogs are euthanized every month. We typically rescue the dog after it has not been claimed or
adopted, and is scheduled to be euthanized. Because the shelters are oftentimes very full, many
loving, adoptable dogs are euthanized.
After the dogs are rescued we place them in
foster homes until we can find them a permanent home. Because we have already placed them in
a home environment, we can tell you about their habits and house manners.
Our Executive Director, Kathy Klages, has years of dog training experience and has been
trained in dog temperament testing. Kathy trains each dog until they are adopted, and she
evaluates each dog in a home situation and can assess how the dog gets along with other dogs,
cats, and children.
Our dogs have a thorough check up by our veterinarians before being placed. This
includes spay/neuter and all necessary vaccinations. The dogs are bathed, groomed and have flea
treatments to get them ready for their new home.
If you don't see a dog on our site that you would like to adopt, please bookmark our site
and check back weekly. You should submit an
application, because we keep
all applications on file and we actively look for the types of dogs we have the most requests
for, and we call adoption applicants when a possible match arrives.
Before adopting or calling to discuss a dog, prospective owners must
fill out an adoption application.
Once approved, you can pick your new best friend.
Small Dog Rescue is located in Chico, CA in Butte County, 80 miles north of Sacramento on Hwy
99, so you must be able to come to Chico to visit or adopt your dog. We do not ship
dogs.
Because we are so busy rescuing
and caring for dogs, it may take several days to return phone calls. If you are interested in a
dog, please send an email to info@smalldogrescue.org .
